# Server lockdown

> Contain only reviewed communication surfaces and restore them without widening access.

## What Pup locks

A server lockdown is not a blanket permission reset. Before activation, an authorized moderator reviews
the approved communication channels, exclusions, incident owner, reason, and expiry. Pup snapshots each
`@everyone` overwrite exactly as Discord returned it, then denies only `Send Messages` on those reviewed
surfaces.

## Restoration and drift

Expiry is the deadline to activate a reviewed preview. It does not automatically reopen channels after
an active lockdown; staff must restore access.

Choose **All channels together** to restore the incident in one action, or **In stages** to reopen
selected channels, review the server, and restore the next group. This choice is saved with each
incident, so changing the policy later does not change an active incident’s recovery plan. Refresh the
incident to see Discord’s confirmed outcome before choosing another group.

Restoration compares Discord’s current overwrite to the exact locked overwrite Pup wrote. If someone
changed it in the meantime, Pup preserves that newer setting and reports **Manual changes preserved**.
Those channels need staff review; Pup does not overwrite the manual changes. Failed actions can be
reconciled using the same selected channels. The incident closes when every channel has been restored
or reported as a preserved manual change.

Configure the approved surfaces before an incident. Excluded channels are never included in a plan, even
when they are part of a reviewed group.
