# Server logs

> Choose which events pup records and where Discord log messages go.

Open **Logs**, choose a staff-only **Moderation log channel**, then save. pup sends every recorded moderation action there, including warnings and slowmode. Choose a channel that only people allowed to read those cases can access.

The moderation log works independently of **Record server events**. Use [Moderation notifications](https://docs.pup.run/moderation-notifications.md) for additional notices or a custom staff template. A matching staff route in this channel supplies its case log.

## Record server events

**Record server events** controls collection of Discord events. **Save attachments from deleted messages** saves encrypted copies and includes them in the deletion log. The event-specific routes below choose where those log messages appear.

pup excludes messages in log destinations from message logging, so clearing old log posts does not create new deletion logs.

## Route events

**Log routes and filters** controls messages, members, joins, leaves, timeouts,
bans, channels, roles, emoji, server changes, and voice independently. Each
family has its own destination and every listed subtype can be disabled before
pup retains it. Channel IDs, member IDs, and literal message prefixes can be
excluded.

Copy the pup logging export to transfer settings. Paste an export and select **Save
changes** to replace routes, events, filters, and attachment collection settings.
Invalid exports show an error without changing the saved settings.

## Check delivery

Use **Connection status** for an unreachable destination or failed log delivery. Turn off **Record server events** to stop collecting new events. See [Data and privacy](https://docs.pup.run/privacy.md) to remove existing records.

[Moderation notifications](https://docs.pup.run/moderation-notifications.md) controls notices for case outcomes. [Data and privacy](https://docs.pup.run/privacy.md) covers stored text and files.
