# Import Carl moderation history

> Capture old modlog messages as read-only cases without changing Discord.

**Moderation → Imported history** captures Carl’s modlog channel without changing
Carl or Discord. Choose the channel and Carl’s bot account, then select **Capture
history**. Server configuration and case-reading access are required. You and pup
must retain permission to view and read the source channel. Private object storage
and Discord Message Content access must be available.

A capture reads up to 100,000 channel messages and retains only messages from the
chosen bot. Refresh to check progress. Review the counts and raw evidence before
selecting **Import read-only cases**.

Missing moderators are labelled **Moderator unavailable**. An ambiguous subject,
action or timestamp stays a gap. Unknown durations are never turned into sanction
deadlines. Imported warnings never contribute to escalation. Importing sends no DMs,
reposts no logs and changes no bans, roles or timeouts.

Search imported cases by member or Carl case number. Each case is visibly imported,
read-only, with a link to its original capture. The source capture remains available for checking an imported case.
Existing imports are not duplicated on reruns. A changed source message is reported
as a gap instead of overwriting the earlier record. Carl configuration, active sanctions, notes, exports and reaction roles are outside this import.

## Read the result

| Count | Meaning |
| - | - |
| Discovered | Source messages found |
| Captured | Raw storage verified |
| Parsed, Mapped, Validated | Unambiguous case records at each stage |
| Applied | Imported cases |
| Gapped | Records that cannot safely be imported |

Check Discord before acting on an old sanction. Use [Cases](https://docs.pup.run/cases.md) for current pup work.
